What are the hottest floral trends for the upcoming Mother’s Day holiday? What do Millennial moms want in a bouquet?

Floriology Institute instructor Jackie Lacey, AIFD, CFD, PFCI shares insights on color and recommended floral varieties.

Stock the classics in this season’s colors

According to Jackie Lacey, AIFD, CFD, PFCI, “We’re dealing with a lot more generations that we used to, so you have to have available styles and varieties of styles that everyone will be asking for.” Classic Mother’s Day and springtime flowers like roses, Peruvian lilies, and tulips will always be in demand. This season, hot pink, light pink and coral are popular for roses, and bouquets are often requested in corals and Robin’s egg blues. Stock up on these varieties in their most popular colors.

Tweak traditional arrangements to appeal to everyone

Make sure you have arrangements that will suit all generations. For example, you can widen customer appeal for a more traditional arrangement by building it with flowers desired by Millennial moms, like gerbera daisies and hydrangeas. Mix in traditional flowers like tulips and roses beloved by older generations, and you’ve built a bouquet every type of customer will love.

Cater to every generation

Millennial moms often look for modern and unusual arrangements instead of traditional bouquets.  Jackie suggests a simple design “that shows we focus on the placement of the floral product, that we are recycling, repurposing, [and] reusing”.  Try simple, structured arrangements in unusual containers and add clean geometric embellishments for a contemporary design.
